A method of forming a gear shaper cutter comprises rolling the cutter past a rotating tool to generate an active involute portion and a modified portion on each tooth, relatively reciprocating the tool along the teeth, and relatively feeding the tool depthwise of the teeth along a predetermined curved path so that, when the cutter is subsequently sharpened, the relative positions of the portions of the teeth remain unaltered. The cutter 1, Fig. 4 (not shown), to be ground is fed along a path P-P against the face of a grinding wheel having a plane surface 3 to generate the involute and a conical face L-L to generate the modified cutter-tooth root which, in use, produces a gear with teeth having involute-chamfered tips. The wheel is fed in along a path E-E, Fig. 3 (not shown), the path being concave when the cutter is for external, and convex for internal, gears. The wheel is set at an angle to obtain side clearance for the teeth, the angle being increased when helical cutters are to be ground.

559,416. Gear-cutting. FELLOWS GEAR SHAPER CO. Jan. 28, 1943, No. 1484. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1942. [Class 83 (iii)] In a machine for generating face gears with teeth at non-uniform distances from the gear axis the generating motions between the cutter and gear have a relative speed ratio which is varied during operation in proportion to the difference in distance of different points on the tooth line from the gear axis. In cutting a face gear h having spirally-arranged teeth t adapted to coact with a spur or helical pinion the teeth are preferably cut on a raised rib r, but in some cases the tooth tops may be flush with the face of the gear by cutting the tooth spaces below the plane of such face. In one machine embodiment, a ribbed blank W is mounted on a spindle 15 carried in a slide 12 which is reciprocated vertically by a cam 30 and the teeth are generated by a reciprocating pinioncutter C which has a tooth-generating rotation in timed relation to rotation of the blank while at the same time the blank is gradually lowered to follow the spiral from the inner to the outer part thereof. Alternatively the spiral may be followed from the outside inwards. The blank spindle 15 carries a master gear 17 engaged by a spur pinion 18 which determines the blank rotation. The rotation of the pinion 18, the generating rotation of the cutter and the rotation of cam 30 are all derived from a motor 25 which drives a shaft 26 connected through universal shaft 48 and bevel gears 50 to a shaft 27 connected through worm gears 22, 21 to the spindles of the cutter and pinion 18 respectively. The cam is driven through worm gearing 32. If the teeth are to be cut in a closed non-circular circuit the cam is arranged to impart the desired up and down movement to the work. The cutter is reciprocated by a segment 34 engaging circular rack teeth 35 and actuated from the motor 25 or a separate motor. The cutter-spindle can swing about the worm 22 and relief is imparted on the non-cutting ...

537,891. Finishing toothed gears. FELLOWS GEAR SHAPER CO. April 5, 1940, No. 6200. Convention date, April 8, 1939. [Class 83 (iii)] Milling-cutters.-In a method of and apparatus for finishing toothed gears a shaving cutter having a series of cutting edges of gear form conjugate to the gear to be produced and spaced apart in tandem in the axial direction, is arranged on an axis parallel to the work axis, the gear and blank being rotated together in pressure mesh while the tool is relatively reciprocated rapidly in the axial direction. The work gear G, Fig. 5, is mounted between centres 1, 2 on a table 5. The conjugate tool T is rotated and drives the work gear and is also reciprocated axially and fed transversely to depth. The tool and its operating mechanism are carried on a transverse depth feed slide 7 and carries a longitudinally-movable tool slide 8 fitted with a tool holder 12 having a housing portion 17 in which the tool spindle 13 is mounted. A motor 18 on the slide 7 is connected by belt gearing 21, shaft 19, change gears 23, 24, shaft 25, gear 27, double face-gear 29, Fig. 8, and gear 30 to the tool spindle. The tool may be adjusted about the axis of the face gear to correct errors of angularity in the work gears. This adjustment which is small (about 5 degrees) and is limited by stops, is effected from a shaft 36. The tool spindle is provided with face cams 41, 42 engaged by rolls so that as the spindle rotates the tool is positively reciprocated a short distance one or more times in each revolution. The main tool reciprocation is effected from a motor 49, Fig. 3, connected by belt gearing to a shaft 54 in the feed slide. This shaft is connected by change gearing 58, pinion 61, and face gear 62 to an adjustable crank disc 64 which drives a rack bar 67 to oscillate a shaft 69 connected by rack gearing 71 to the carriage 8. The depth feed of slide 7 is derived from the shaft 50 driven by motor 49. This shaft is connected through planetary reducing gear 74 to ...

A multiple coordinate measuring system of the type wherein a probe explores some feature of a part being measured and acts through a transducer or similar device to record a measurement on a chart or other record. Both the part and probe are moved along coordinated and predetermined paths so that the probe remains a fixed distance from the surface of the part being measured when the theoretical dimension corresponds to the actual dimension of the part. Detected deviations of the probe from the fixed distance represent deviations of the actual dimension from the theoretical dimension and are recorded on charts or other records. In one embodiment of the invention of this application, the actual positions of both the part being measured and the probe during measurement are continuously detected and deviations of the part and measuring instrument from their theoretical positions are detected and employed to correct the detected signals from the probe indicating the deviation of the probe from the fixed distance.

Synthesis of tetracyclines and analogues thereof

Номер: CA2648668A1

The tetracycline class of antibiotics has played a major role in the treatment of infectious diseases for the past 50 years. However, the increased use of the tetracyclines in human and veterinary medicine has led to resistance among many organisms previously susceptible to tetracycline antibiotics. The modular synthesis of tetracyclines and tetracycline analogs described provides an efficient and enantioselective route to a variety of tetracycline analogs and polycyclines previously inaccessible via earlier tetracycline syntheses and semi-synthetic methods. These analogs may be used as anti- microbial agents or anti-pro liferative agents in the treatment of diseases of humans or other animals.

Use of il-1f5 for the modulation of an immune-mediated response

Номер: WO2007034465A2

Described is the novel finding that IL-1 F5 (IL-1 delta) and polypeptides derived therefrom bind to the receptor SIGIRR, with this binding interaction serving to modulate the immune response by stimulation the production of the cytokine IL-4. This induces an anti-inflammatory immune response. It has been further shown that PPARgamma is a key mediator in downstream signalling from SIGIRR following activation by the IL-1 F5 ligand. Modulation of the immune response occurs following binding of SIGIRR by IL-1 F5 in neuronal tissue and according methods for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases are described.

In one aspect, the present invention provides a method of processing a substrate, e.g., a semiconductor substrate, by irradiating a surface of the substrate (or at least a portion of the surface) with a first set of polarized short laser pulses while exposing the surface to a fluid to generate a plurality of structures on the surface, e.g., within a top layer of the surface. Subsequently, the structured surface can be irradiated with another set of polarized short laser pulses having a different polarization than that of the initial set while exposing the structured surface to a fluid, e.g., the same fluid initially utilized to form the structured surface or a different fluid. In many embodiments, the second set of polarized laser pulses cause the surface structures formed by the first set to break up into smaller-sized structures, e.g., nano-sized features such as nano-sized rods.
