Video quality measurement

Номер: US0010075710B2

A particular implementation receives a bitstream and derives parameters from the bitstream. The parameters include quantization parameters, content unpredictability parameters, ratios of lost blocks, ratios of propagated blocks, error concealment distances, motion vectors, durations of freezing, and frame rates. Using these parameters, a compression distortion factor, a slicing distortion factor, and a freezing distortion factor are estimated respectively for distortions resulting from video compression, a slicing mode error concealment, and a freezing slicing mode error concealment. The distortion factors are then mapped to a composite video quality score. For applications with limited computational power, the estimation of distortion factors can be simplified. In particular, the compression distortion factor, the slicing distortion factor, and the freezing distortion factor can be predicted from quantization parameters, ratios of lost blocks, and durations of freezing, respectively.

Method and apparatus for context-based video quality assessment

Номер: US0009716881B2
Принадлежит: Thomson Licensing

Spatial distortion (i.e., when a frame is viewed independently of other frames in a video sequence) may be quite different from temporal distortion (i.e., when frames are viewed continuously). To estimate temporal distortion, a sliding window approach is used. Specifically, multiple sliding windows around a current frame are considered. Within each sliding window, a large distortion density is calculated and a sliding window with the highest large distortion density is selected. A distance between the current frame and the closest frame with large distortion in the selected window is calculated. Subsequently, the temporal distortion is estimated as a function of the highest large distortion ratio, the spatial distortion for the current frame, and the distance. In another embodiment, a median of spatial distortion values is calculated for each sliding window and the maximum of median spatial distortion values is used to estimate the temporal distortion.

Various implementations address distortion and quality measurements. Certain implementations relate to distortions resulting in a freeze-with-skip and/or a freeze-without-skip. In one implementation, a pause term provides an indication of distortion associated with a pause arising from not displaying one or more consecutive pictures that are not to be displayed. A motion term provides an indication of distortion associated with a related change in motion. A combined indicator is based on an addition of the pause term and the motion term. In another particular implementation, a first indicator indicates distortion across one or more types of distortive effects that results from not displaying a first set of pictures. A second indicator indicates corresponding distortion with respect to a second set of pictures. The first indicator and the second indicator are combined in a non-linear manner. 1. Method and apparatus for video quality assessment based on content complexity

Номер: US0010536703B2

To estimate content complexity of a video, energy of prediction residuals is calculated. The prediction residuals are usually smaller when the video is less complex and more predictable. Scales of prediction residuals also depend on encoding configurations, for example, I pictures usually have larger prediction residuals than P and B pictures even when the contents are very similar and thus have similar perceived content complexity. To more closely reflect the content complexity, alignment scaling factors are estimated for different encoding configurations. Based on the energy of prediction residuals and alignment scaling factors, an overall content unpredictability parameter can be estimated to compute a compression distortion factor for the video. The compression distortion factor, combined with slicing and freezing distortion factors, can be used to estimate a video quality metric for the video.

Video quality measurement considering multiple artifacts

Номер: US0009924167B2

A particular implementation determines objective distortion levels (d,) respectively for a plurality of artifact types. The objective distortion levels are aligned to ensure that the same distortion level of different types of artifacts corresponds to the same perceived distortion level. The aligned distortion levels (d,′) are sorted to obtain sorted distortion levels (d,″). The sorted distortion levels are then pooled together into an overall distortion level or an overall quality metric. The sorted distortion levels may be pooled using a weighted sum, wherein the weight is larger when the sorted distortion level is greater.

A macroblock in a video sequence may be undecodable because the corresponding compressed data is lost or the syntax is out of synchronization. An undecodable macroblock may be concealed using error concealment technique. The level of initial visible artifacts caused by undecodable macroblocks may be estimated as a function of motion magnitude, error concealment distance, and/or residual energy. The initial visible artifacts may propagate spatially or temporally to other macroblocks through prediction. Considering both initial visible artifacts and propagated artifacts, levels of overall artifacts may be estimated for individual macroblocks. The visual quality for the video sequence can then be estimated by pooling the macroblock level artifact levels.

Because neighboring frames may affect how a current frame is perceived, we examine different neighborhoods of the current frame and select a neighborhood that impacts the perceived temporal distortion (i.e., when frames are viewed continuously) of the current frame most significantly. Based on spatial distortion (i.e., when a frame is viewed independently of other frames in a video sequence) of frames in the selected neighborhood, we can estimate initial temporal distortion. To refine the initial temporal distortion, we also consider the distribution of distortion in the selected neighborhood, for example, the distance between the current frame and a closest frame with large distortion, or whether distortion occurs in consecutive frames.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ESTIMATING CONTENT COMPLEXITY FOR VIDEO QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Номер: US20150222905A1

To estimate content complexity of a video, energy of prediction residuals is calculated. The prediction residuals are usually smaller when the video is less complex and more predictable. Scales of prediction residuals also depend on encoding configurations, for example, I pictures usually have larger prediction residuals than P and B pictures even when the contents are very similar and thus have similar perceived content complexity. To more closely reflect the content complexity, alignment scaling factors are estimated for different encoding configurations. Video quality measurement

Номер: WO2013075318A1
Принадлежит: THOMSON LICENSING

Method and apparatus for adapting a default encoding of a digital video signal during a scene change period

Номер: WO2008019525A1
Принадлежит: THOMSON LICENSING

The frame (n) following a scene cut (SCC) is usually coded as an I picture. In CBR encoding, the encoder will try to keep the bit rate (R) constant, which will often cause serious picture quality degradation at scene changes. In VBR encoding, more bits will be allocated to the first frame (n) of the new scene and the bit rate will increase significantly for a short time. Therefore subsequent frames must be coded in ^skipped' mode, which will often cause jerk artifacts. According to the invention, in each frame belonging to a scene change period, areas are determined that have different human attention levels. In the frames (n-1, n-2, n-3) located prior to the first new scene frame, to the areas having a lower attention level less bits are assigned than in the default encoding, and in the frames (n, n+1, n+2) located at and after the scene cut the thus saved bits are additionally assigned to the areas having a higher attention level.

Video encoder, video decoder, method for video encoding and method for video decoding, separately for each colour plane

Номер: EP2529553A1

High-fidelity video coding nowadays tends to adopt the RGB coding for directly reducing RGB inter-color redundancy without color space conversion. A known method uses a blockbased inter-colour compensation algorithm for removing inter-colour redundancy on RGB colour planes by defining the correlation between colour planes within each coding block as a linear model of slope and offset parameters, codes the base plane block and then predicts the other two colour blocks from the base plane block. However, for most coding blocks the texture within a component block varies quite much. A new method for improved video coding uses adaptive segmentation of the base colour component block, corresponding segmentation of the other colour component blocks and individual slope and offset parameters for predicting each segment.

The invention relates to a broken axle fault diagnosis technology of a rail vehicle, in particular to a diagnostic method and device for broken axle faults of a rail vehicle, and a computer-readable medium. The above-mentioned diagnostic method for broken axle faults of a rail vehicle can be used for diagnosing broken axle faults of a plurality of axles of the rail vehicle. The diagnostic method includes the steps: judging the operating condition of the rail vehicle; and in response to the rail vehicle being in the traction operating condition, using one of the plurality of axles as the axle to be tested to perform a first broken axle condition judgment. The first broken axle condition may include: the actual traction of the other axles except the one to be tested is all greater than the first traction threshold, while the actual traction of the axle to be tested has been continuously smaller than the second traction threshold and the axle speed has been continuously greater than the speed of the rail vehicle for up to the first time threshold. If the first broken axle condition is satisfied, it is judged that the axle to be tested is suspected of having a broken axle fault. The invention can be used to report faults quickly and accurately, so as to ensure the safe operation of trains.
