The bearing 20 may be of smaller diameter than either the motor stator 10 or the wheel hub 18. The drive may be used in a cycle or other electric vehicle.

A pedal driven cycle comprises a cantilevered frame member (96, figure 1) coupled to a power input sprocket 5 and a driven sprocket 6; a belt drive 3 connecting the power input sprocket 5 to the driven sprocket; and a side mounted rear wheel 91 releasably coupled to a multi-speed gear hub 15 that is coaxial with the side mounted rear wheel 91, wherein the multi-speed gear hub 15 is coupled to the driven sprocket 6. Belt tension may be adjusted by means of a two-component sliding arrangement comprising a house housing carrier 23 and second supporting member 22, secured by clamping bolts 25. The cantilever member 96 may comprise lips (figure 9) to prevent a rider’s clothing being caught by the belt 3.
