Electromagnetic sensors which provide high coupling gain between the transmitter and receiver of a dielectric tool include a conductive pad having a cavity filled with dielectric filler, and an electrical conductor that provides electrical current to a conductive feeder placed inside the dielectric filler. During operation, current is fed to the conductive feeder to thereby produce an electric monopole that feeds electromagnetic power into the cavity, which then radiates out into the formation as electromagnetic signals. Because of the design of the electromagnetic sensors, the transmitter/receiver coupling gain and SNR are optimized over the entire range of the dielectric constant (i.e., 5≤ϵr≤80).

The raw signal measurements can be converted into ratio signals having attenuation and phase shift. An apparent resistivity can be determined from the ratio signals. Mud resistivity can be determined based on apparent resistivity, at least part of the raw signal measurements, and the borehole size. A true resistivity can be determined based on the mud resistivity and at least part of the ratio signals. The raw signal measurements and the ratio signals can be updated based on the true resistivity. Steps can be repeated to determine a corrected true resistivity. Based on the true resistivity value and updated raw signal measurements and ratio signals, an operating characteristic of a well tool can be caused to be adjusted.

Numerical and/or semi-analytical methods are leveraged to decouple a complete set of nonzero electromagnetic field tensor components () from detected signal data (). Nine nonzero components can serve as inputs for a three-dimensional inversion process to determine formation properties. A resistivity tool () containing at least one transmitter () and at least one receiver () at tilted angles receives an electromagnetic signal throughout a rotation. A difference in the azimuthal positions of the transmitter(s) and receiver(s) during rotation of the resistivity tool can result in an azimuthal offset between resistivity tool subs. An antenna assembly includes a tool mandrel having a tool axis, and a coil including a plurality of windings wrapped about the tool mandrel at a winding angle offset from the tool axis. A soft magnetic band radially interposes the coil and the tool mandrel and extends about a circumference of the tool mandrel at a band angle orthogonal to the winding angle. The soft magnetic band includes a plurality of inserts, and a gap is defined between each laterally adjacent insert and the gap extends parallel to the tool axis. 1. An antenna assembly , comprising:a tool mandrel having a tool axis;a coil including a plurality of windings wrapped about the tool mandrel at a winding angle offset from the tool axis; anda soft magnetic band radially interposing the coil and the tool mandrel and extending about a circumference of the tool mandrel at a band angle orthogonal to the winding angle, wherein the soft magnetic band includes a plurality of inserts, and wherein a gap is defined between each laterally adjacent insert and the gap extends parallel to the tool axis.2. The antenna assembly of claim 1 , wherein the tool mandrel defines a saddle and the coil and the soft magnetic band are positioned in the saddle.3. The antenna assembly of claim 1 , wherein the soft magnetic band comprises a material selected from the group consisting of a ferrite claim 1 , mu-metal claim 1 , permalloy claim 1 , metallic glass claim 1 , and any combination thereof.4. The antenna assembly of claim 1 , wherein each insert comprises:a length that aligns axially with the tool axis; anda width, wherein each insert exhibits an arcuate shape across the width to conform to a curvature of the tool mandrel.5. The antenna assembly of claim 4 , wherein each insert comprises a rectangular or parallelogram-shaped member.6.
