Embodiments of the present invention relate to pedestrian head impact protection. A motor vehicle hood latch mechanism for engaging a striker of a hood having a closed locked position and a released position is disclosed. The mechanism includes a latch assembly attached to a chassis member. The airbag includes an upper portion inflatable along the front-end structure and the hood to the inflated position. A pyrotechnic actuator is disposed at the front pillar. The pyrotechnic actuator is positioned to pull the upper portion across the hood towards the front pillar during inflation.

The apparatus of further comprising an actuator moving the bar between the retracted and deployed positions.3.
