The present invention relates to a method for preparing a gas barrier film having excellent shielding characteristics through complexation of a polymer material having excellent shielding characteristics, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), and a carbon material, graphene oxide (GO); and to a gas barrier film using PVA-grafted graphene obtained therefrom. According to the present invention, it was confirmed that due to grafting effects, the compatibility between GO and PVA matrices increased. As a result, gases evenly distributed within the PVA matrix are transmitted through a convoluted route, and thus the shielding characteristics are increased. Particularly, with respect to 550 nm wavelength, the PVA/PVA-grafted GO barrier film of the present invention, at GO contents of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 wt%, showed visible light transmission rates of 90.1%, 85.4%, and 83.8%, and oxygen transmission rates of 0.984, 0.245, and 0.025 cc/m^2·day respectively, and thus was found to have superior shielding characteristics ...
