The present invention relates to an optical device and a use of the optical device. An exemplary optical device can realize a smart blind having excellent transmission and block characteristics at the side surface as well as the front surface even without a phase retardation film, using a polarizing layer having patterned polarization characteristics through a guest and host type dye layer containing a polymerizable liquid crystal compound and a dichromatic dye.
