An aspect of the present invention simplifies software maintenance of nodes in a data center. In one embodiment, a management system receives data specifying a set of commands to be executed on a node in the data center, and then forms a maintenance script by programmatically incorporating instructions for executing the set of commands on the node and to perform a set of management actions. The management system then executes the maintenance script to cause execution of the set of commands on the nodes, thereby performing maintenance of the node. A user/administrator of the data center needs to specify only the commands, thereby simplifying the software maintenance of data centers. According to another aspect, the maintenance scripts (formed by incorporating the commands provided by a user) are executed as part of a disaster recovery process in the data center.

Fault tolerant operation is disclosed for a primary match server of a financial exchange using an active copy-cat instance that mirrors operations in the primary match server, but only after those operations have successfully completed in the primary match server. Fault tolerant logic monitors inputs and outputs of the primary match server and gates those inputs to the backup match server once a given input has been processed. The outputs of the backup match server are then compared with the outputs of the primary match server to ensure correct operation. The disclosed embodiments further relate to fault tolerant failover mechanism allowing the backup match server to take over for the primary match server in a fault situation wherein the primary and backup match servers are loosely coupled. As such, the primary match server need not be specifically designed or programmed to interact with the fault tolerant mechanisms.

Techniques for maintaining mirrored storage cluster data consistency can employ write-intent logging. The techniques can be scaled to any number of mirror nodes. The techniques can keep track of any outstanding I/Os, data in caches, and data that has gone out of sync between mirrored nodes due to link failures. The techniques can ensure that a power failure on any of the storage nodes does not result in inconsistent data among the storage nodes. The techniques may keep track of outstanding I/Os using a minimal memory foot-print and having a negligible impact on the I/O performance. Properly choosing the granularity of the system for tracking outstanding I/Os can result in a minimal amount of data requiring transfer to synchronize the mirror nodes. The capability to vary the granularity based on physical and logical parameters of the storage volumes may provide performance benefits.

Systems and methods are disclosed herein to automatically replicate virtual machine image (VM) files on secondary VM computing devices, from a primary VM computing device. The secondary VM computing devices are automatically selected by constantly reviewing the operating parameter values (e.g., cost of resources, power consumption, etc.) of a number of secondary VM computing devices available of storing VM image replicas. The replica of the primary VM image is stored in the secondary VM computing devices in geographically disparate cloud locations. The primary VM image is automatically broken into constituent data blocks stored in an active index, which is compared against a stale index of data blocks. When an update is detected in the primary VM image, the comparison of indices will indicate that there is new data. Only the new data is used to update the secondary VM images, thereby reducing network traffic and latency issues.

Methods and apparatus for logging, analysis, and reporting of events such as reboots in a client device (e.g., consumer premises equipment in a cable network) using applications. In one aspect, an improved event logging and monitoring system is provided within the device with which the application(s) can interface to record event or error data. In one exemplary embodiment, the client device comprises a digital set-top box having Java-enabled middleware adapted to implement the various functional aspects of the event logging system, which registers to receive event notifications (including resource exhaustion data) from other applications running on the device. The network operator can also optionally control the operation of the logging system remotely via a network agent. Improved client device and network configurations, as well as methods of operating these systems, are also disclosed.

By setting change indicators for local tracks in a withdrawn logical copy relationship (even if the data in local tracks hasn't changed), the remote counterparts to these tracks on the remote site will be rewritten, resulting in withdrawal of the logical copy relationship there even if the withdrawal command was never sent to the remote site.

A system and method are disclosed for generating triggers within a hardware emulator. The system allows for dynamic reconfiguration of the trigger generation scheme during emulation. In one aspect, input probe signals are received on an address port to a memory from an integrated circuit within the emulator. The memory outputs from a data port, data, which is addressed, at least in part, by the input probe signals. The data output from the data port may be sent through further combinatorial logic or directly connected to a logic analyzer and represents trigger information. In another aspect, the trigger generation scheme may be reconfigured dynamically during emulation. For example, where the memory is a dual-port RAM, an emulation host can write to the memory to perform the reconfiguration.

Presented herein are methods of replicating versioned and hierarchical data structures, as well as data structures representing complex transactions. Due to interdependencies between data entities and a lack of guaranteed message ordering, simple replication methods employed for simple data types cannot be used. Operations on data structures exhibit dependencies between the messages making up the operations. This strategy can be extended to various types of complex transactions by considering certain messages to depend on other messages or on the existence of other entries at the data store. Regardless of origin, these dependencies can be enforced by suspending the processing of messages with unsatisfied dependencies until all of its dependencies have been met. Alternately, transactions can be committed immediately, creating entities that include versioned identifiers for each of their dependencies. These entities can then be garbage collected of the parent objects are not subsequently created.

Data that is to be written is received, wherein the data is indicated in one or more blocks of a first block size. Each of the one or more blocks of the first block size is written in consecutive blocks of a second block size that is larger is size than the first block size, wherein each of the consecutive blocks of the second block size stores only one block of the first block size, and wherein each of the consecutive blocks of the second block size has empty space remaining, subsequent to the writing of each of the one or more blocks of the first block size. Filler data is written in the empty space remaining in each of the consecutive blocks of the second block size.

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for managing track discard requests to include in discard track messages. A backup copy of a track in a cache is maintained in the cache backup device. A track discard request is generated to discard tracks in the cache backup device removed from the cache. Track discard requests are queued in a discard track queue. In response to detecting that a predetermined number of track discard requests are queued in the discard track queue while processing in a discard multi-track mode, one discard multiple tracks message is sent indicating the tracks indicated in the queued predetermined number of track discard requests to the cache backup device instructing the cache backup device to discard the tracks indicated in the discard multiple tracks message. In response to determining a predetermined number of periods of inactivity while processing in the discard multi-track mode, processing the track discard requests is switched to a discard single track mode.

A method for diagnosing a control system for a stacked battery. The control system comprises a plurality of processors, a plurality of controllers, and a monitoring unit (control unit). The method comprises sending a diagnostic information from the central unit to a top processor of the plurality of processors, transmitting a return information from the top processor of the plurality of processors to the central unit, comparing the diagnostic information sent from the central unit with the return information received by the central unit, and indicating a communication problem if the diagnostic information sent from the central unit is different from the return information received by the central unit. The steps are repeated by eliminating the top processor from a previous cycle and assigning a new top processor if there is no problem with the reconfigurable communication system.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to invoking and managing a failover of a storage account between partitions within a distributed computing environment, where each partition represents a key range of data for the storage account. The partitions affected by the failover include source partitions hosted on a primary storage stamp and destination partitions hosted on a secondary storage stamp, where the storage account's data is being actively replicated from the primary to the secondary storage stamp. Upon receiving a manual or automatic indication to perform the failover, configuring the source partitions to independently perform flush-send operations (e.g., distributing pending messages as a group) and then configuring the destination partitions to independently perform flush-replay operations (e.g., aggressively replaying currently pending transactions). Upon completing the flush-replay operations, designating the secondary storage stamp as a new primary storage stamp such that live traffic is directed to the new primary storage stamp.

The local storage performs remote copy to the remote storage. For low traffic failback remote copy, the remote storage performs a delta copy to the local storage, the delta being the difference between the remote storage and local storage. The local storage backs up snapshot data. The remote storage resolves the difference of the snapshot of the local storage and the remote storage. The difference resolution method can take one of several approaches. First, the system informs the timing of snapshot of the local storage to the remote storage and records the accessed area of the data. Second, the system informs the timing of snapshot of the local storage to the remote storage, and the remote storage makes a snapshot and compares the snapshot and remote copied data. Third, the system compares the local data and remote copy data with hashed data.

High availability architecture that employs a mid-tier proxy server to route client communications to active data store instances in response to failover and switchover. The proxy server includes an active manager client that interfaces to an active manager in each of the backend servers. State information and configuration information are maintained separately and according to semantics consistent with needs of corresponding data, the configuration information changing less frequently and more available, the state information changing more frequently and less available. The active manager indicates to the proxy server which of the data storage instances is the currently the active instance. In the event that the currently active instance is inactive, the proxy server selects a different backend server that currently hosts the active data store instance. Client communications are then routed to the different backend server with minimal or no interruption to the client.
