A module assembly floating dry-dock includes a first pontoon, a module turning caisson and a second pontoon positioned adjacent each other, each capable of independent lowering and raising. Hull module subassemblies are lifted into position onto the first pontoon and welded together to construct a hull module laying on its side. The first pontoon can be lowered to float the hull module such that the hull module can straddle the module turning caisson. The module turning caisson is then raised to engage a tilting roller conveyor with the hull module, and the first pontoon further lowered, to turn the hull module into an upright position. The hull module can be moved over the roller tracks to an assembly position on the second pontoon. The process is then repeated to construct a second hull module and move it into an aligned position adjacent the first hull module so that the two hull modules can be welded together.

A boat and a method of assembly therefor has a clamp with three slots in it. Two of the slots are mirror images of one another and are symmetrical about a longitudinal centre line of said boat and are located on either side of a vertical plane through said centre line when the boat is in an upright position. A bottom slot extends between a lower end of the other two slots. The bottom slot is designed to receive one end of a bottom of a boat during construction. The other two slots are designed to receive one end of a side of the boat during construction. The clamp eliminates the requirement for the construction of a frame or jig before constructing the boat. In some boats, two clamps are utilized. Boats of various designs can be constructed.

A lip is formed around the upper edge of each base section to which the upper section comprising several panels of plywood is attached with screws. Joints between the base section and the upper section and the panels of the upper section are sealed with fibreglass tape and resin. The two halves of the hull can then be bolted together.

The vessel produced has a high strength metal truss structure (both above and below the water line) capable of carrying major hull loads. A number of curved or doubly curved composite (e. g. GRP) panels produced by vacuum assisted resin transfer molding are fastened by bolts, marine adhesives, and/or rivets to the below water line portions of the truss structure where necessary to handle slamming loads and to reduce water resistance and wake. Substantially flat composite pultruded panels are fastened to the truss structure both above the water line, and below the water line where the resistance to slamming loads and reduction of water resistance and wake are not critical. Necessary equipment is installed within the open truss volume before the above-water-line panels are fully installed.
