The CPU has a function of issuing a bus command for commanding a bitwise write operation to the register comprised in the peripheral module, in order to execute a bit operation command fetched. When the bus command is issued, the peripheral module executes a bitwise write operation for the register. Since the CPU does not need to lock the bus after the bus command is issued, a bit operation can be performed without degradation in performance of the bus.

After the gate layers and the dummy layer are formed, a TEOS film is formed on a silicon substrate so as to cover the gate layers and the dummy layer. The TEOS film, a thin gate oxide film and a thick gate oxide film are then dry-etched to form sidewalls on the sidewalls of the gate layers and also expose the front surface of the P well of the silicon substrate in a region surrounded by the LOCOS. The end point detection dummy layer helps the end point detection by being exposed during this dry-etching to enhance the accuracy of the end point detection.

A central processing unit is capable of performing a specified instruction that adds an offset to a value of a register to generate an effective address for data. This register can be assigned an intended value in accordance with execution of an instruction. A buffer maintains part of instruction streams and data streams stored in memory. The buffer includes cache memories for storing the instruction stream and the data stream. From the memory, the buffer prefetches a data stream containing data corresponding to an effective address designated by the specified instruction stored in the cache memory. A data prefetch operation is easy because a data stream is prefetched by finding the specified instruction from the fetched instruction stream. Data can be prefetched from a wider range than the use of a PC-relative load instruction.

At this time, a resist mask (10) having an opening (11) over an active region (1) is formed; the resist mask (10) covers at least both ends in the length direction of the hard mask (5a) and exposes in the opening (11) at least the entirety of the part of the hard mask (5a) which lies right above the active region (1). The hard mask (5a) is thinned by etching using the resist mask (10) as a mask and therefore the hard mask (5a) is thinned in the part over the active region (1) without being shortened in the length direction. As a result, the gate electrode formed by using the thinned hard mask (5a) is not shortened in length.

In each pair of burner groups, a first burner group and a second burner group are fired alternately and waste heat produced when the first burner group is fired is stored in a regenerator of the second burner group. The stored waste heat is utilized to preheat the combustion air of the second burner group when the second burner group is fired. The present invention provides a method for manufacturing an integrated circuit in which an aperture is formed in a stack in which an underlayer, a light-receiving area pad, and an upper structural layer are layered on a substrate, the method comprising a light-receiving area pad etching step for etching the structural layer and the light-receiving area pad under etching conditions in which a high selectivity ratio is maintained between the upper structural layer and the light-receiving area pad; and an underlayer etching step for switching to etching conditions in which the light-receiving area pad has a high selectivity ratio in relation to the underlayer following the light-receiving area pad etching step, and etching the light-receiving area pad and the underlayer. The bottom surface of the aperture can thereby be made flatter and the amount of incident light in the plane of the light-receiving portion can be made more uniform.
