Grafted Polymer Surfaces for Dropwise Condensation, and Associated Methods of Use and Manufacture

Presented herein are articles and methods featuring substrates with thin, uniform polymeric films grafted (e.g., covalently bonded) thereupon. The resulting coating provides significant reductions in thermal resistance, drop shedding size, and degradation rate during dropwise condensation of steam compared to existing coatings. Surfaces that promote dropwise shedding of low-surface tension condensates, such as liquid hydrocarbons, are also demonstrated herein. 1. A method of preparing a surface of a condenser , the method comprising the step of performing hot wire chemical vapor deposition (HWCVD) to graft a polymeric film on the surface of the condenser , wherein the polymeric film has a thickness no greater than 1500 nm and wherein the polymeric film has a surface with low contact angle hysteresis of no greater than 50° for water.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of performing HWCVD comprises performing initiated chemical vapor deposition (iCVD) to produce the polymeric film grafted on the surface of the condenser.3. Enhancing performance stability of electroactive polymers by vapor-deposited organic networks

Disclosed are compositions of electroactive polymers (EAPs) having improved performance stability. In the EAP compositions, a cross-linked polymer is deposited onto the surface of the EAP by vapor-deposition methods. Upon contact with an aqueous solution (e.g., an aqueous electrolyte solution), the vapor-deposited polymeric network becomes a hydrogel that encapsulates the EAPs. By modulating precursors and vapor deposition conditions, the mesh size of the resultant hydrogel coatings can be controlled to accommodate the key species that interact with the EAPs.

In one aspect, a polymer blend comprising (a) a terpolymer comprising ethylene, alkyl acrylate, and glycidyl methacrylate, having a methyl acrylate content of 5 to 30 weight percent based on the weight of the terpolymer and having a glycidyl methacrylate content of 1 to 10 weight percent based on the weight of the terpolymer, wherein the amount of terpolymer (a) comprises 10 to 50 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, and wherein the alkyl acrylate is methyl acrylate or butyl acrylate; and (b) a copolymer comprising ethylene and at least one of methyl acrylate and ethyl acrylate having an acrylate content of 5 to 30 weight percent based on the weight of the copolymer, wherein the amount of copolymer (b) comprises 50 to 90 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend, wherein the amount of terpolymer (a) and copolymer (b) is at least 80 weight percent of the blend based on the total weight of the blend.

Ai-assisted design of lnps for effective cns delivery of rna

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have emerged as a promising delivery vehicle for realizing the therapeutic potential of RNA. Developing effective extrahepatic-targeting LNP formulations has been elusive, however, particularly when targeting the central nervous system (CNS). This work demonstrates the ability of AiLNP, METiS' proprietary AI-driven organ-targeted LNP discovery engine, to rapidly (<2 months) create proprietary LNPs specifically optimized for CNS delivery. AiLNP-designed LNPs loaded with siRNA achieved >80%knockdown of HTT mRNA in the whole brain of adult mice after a single intrathecal dose of 0.75 mg/kg siRNA, while naked siRNA was unable to achieve knockdown at any dose. Tissue microscopy found that the optimized LNPs uniformly delivered siRNA to deep brain regions in the cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum. The LNPs showed clear signs of safety, with no hematologic toxicity, systemic bleeding, or body weight changes. Beyond siRNA, AiLNP has also been applied to optimize LNPs for CNS delivery of mRNA and ASOs. These results highlight the potential of AiLNP to significantly improve the design of LNPs that can successfully deliver payloads to the CNS.

Grafted polymer surfaces for dropwise condensation, and associated methods of use and manufacture

Presented herein are articles and methods featuring substrates with thin, uniform polymeric films grafted (e.g., covalently bonded) thereupon. The resulting coating provides significant reductions in thermal resistance, drop shedding size, and degradation rate during dropwise condensation of steam compared to existing coatings. Surfaces that promote dropwise shedding of low-surface tension condensates, such as liquid hydrocarbons, are also demonstrated herein.
