A thermoplastic laminate plank is described wherein the thermoplastic laminate plank comprises a core, a print layer, and optionally an overlay. Optionally, an underlay layer can be located and affixed between the bottom surface of the print layer and the top surface of the core. In addition, a method of making the thermoplastic laminate plank is further described which involves extruding at least one thermoplastic material into the shape of the core and affixing a laminate on the core, wherein the laminate comprises an overlay affixed to the top surface of the print layer and optionally an underlay layer affixed to the bottom surface of the print layer.

The coating layer preferably additionally contains a copolymer of ethylene and a vinyl monomer. The polymer film has oxygen barrier properties and improves adhesion of the mineral coating layer to the polymer substrate. The polymer film is particularly suitable when used as a packaging film.

The method includes the steps of: imparting a charge to the polymeric surface to produce a charged surface ; exposing the charged surface to a nitrogen-rich polymer to form a polymerized surface ; exposing the polymerized surface to an oxidized polysaccharide to form an aldehyde surface; and exposing the aldehyde surface to a reducing agent. Advantageously, a method is provided which produces surfaces that resist non-specific protein binding an d cell attachment and that avoids the use of photochemical reactions or prior art specially designed compounds.

A polymerization process for producing a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluorobutylethylene, prepared by an aqueous dispersion polymerization technique, and the resin produced thereby, are provided. This copolymer contains a relatively small amount, between about 0.02 weight percent and about 0.6 weight percent, of comonomer polymerization units. The copolymer is believed to be comprised of a core-shell structure wherein the polymerized comonomer units reside primarily within the core. The primary particle size of the copolymer ranges from 0.175 microns to and including 0.203 microns and the standard specific gravity is less than 2.143. This copolymer possesses a unique combination of very small particle size coupled with high molecular weight, a combination not heretofore achieved in tetra-fluoroethylene polymers of the dispersion or fine powder type. The process of this invention is characterized by permanganate initiation and the entire reaction is carried out in the absence of zinc chloride or other ionic strength enhancer. The addition of initiator must be stopped well before completion of the reaction, preferably at or before the mid-point of the complete reaction.

ABSTRACT In a synthetic surface-covering laminate sheet material which comprises a plurality of cured, resin-saturated paper materials, including a top sheet material, laminated together under heat and pressure to form a hard thermoset resin laminate sheet material having a hard top surface suitable for use as a surface covering, the improvement which comprises: the laminate comprising one or more paper materials containing an electrically conductive, static-dissipating amount of a quaternary ammonium compound present in an amount to provide a laminate having a top surface resistivity of 109 ohms per square inch or less, when tested in accordance with ASTM-D257.
