The detectable marks having at least one edge that coincides with a part of at least one of said one or more edges of the substrate. The mark provides an input to a controller for adjusting the position of the application needle 30 so as to accurately deposit the sealant 24. These marks may be located at the corner of the substrate. The detectable marks are made on the substrate before it is cut; these have a large enough size to allow for any size variation in the apparatus after the cutting process. The marks may be part of the patterned layer that also defines the conductive elements for one level of an array of electronic devices.

A new extrusion die head and method of making the same is provided that permits two strips of elastomeric material to be extruded simultaneously and one above the other from a single core of extrudate. The head is particularly useful for extruding sidewall strips in the manufacture of pneumatic tires. The head design has features common to both conventional strip extruding heads and to heads for extruding tubular shapes, commonly called tuber heads. However, the head is quite different from both the conventional strip extrusion heads and the conventional tuber heads, and has the advantage that it permits two strips to be extruded simultaneously through passages that are relatively short in length and are no wider than the width of a single sidewall strip. The design of the head and the method of making it are such that the extrusion passage surfaces can be easily machined to provide excellent flow characteristics, and the entire head is easily fabricated and cleaned.

In order to allow windows to be welded atop packages, disclosed embodiments keep a lip of metal without any glass after the metal frames are fused to the sheet of glass. Several techniques may accomplish this goal, including grinding grooves in the glass to provide a gap that prevents fusion of the glass to the metal frames along the outside edges in order to form a lip. The disclosed batch processing techniques may allow for more efficient window production, taking advantage of the economy of scale.

ABSTRACT A method for processing a wafer containing microelectronic mechanical devices that allows all fabrication and test steps to be performed in wafer form instead of device form. The wafer 20 is mounted in a saw frame 24 on dicing tape 22 and the individual devices 27 separated, typically by sawing, prior to completing device fabrication. The devices are left on the dicing tape during the remaining fabrication steps. Some fabrication steps may require covering the adhesive of the dicing tape with a protective cover 44. After all fabrication steps including the application of a protective overcoat and functional testing are completed, the devices are removed from the dicing tape and packaged.

In manufacturing a link plate for a roller chain, a band of sheet steel is intermittently forwarded along a path past series of dies, including rough punching dies and shaving dies. The punching dies and corresponding shaving dies are located symmetrically on opposite sides of an intermediate location along the path. The intermediate location coincides with a location at which the lateral deviation of the band reverses. A new extrusion die head and method of making the same is provided that permits two strips of elastomeric material to be extruded simultaneously and one above the other from a single core of extrudate. The head is particularly useful for extruding sidewall strips in the manufacture of pneumatic tires. The head design has features common to both conventional strip extruding heads and to heads for extruding tubular shapes, commonly called tuber heads. However, the head is quite different from both the conventional strip extrusion heads and the conventional tuber heads, and has the advantage that it permits two strips to be extruded simultaneously through passages that are relatively short in length and are no wider than the width of a single sidewall strip. The design of the head and the method of making it are such that the extrusion passage surfaces can be easily machined to provide excellent flow characteristics, and the entire head is easily fabricated and cleaned.

A photographic film cassette manufacturing apparatus, has a perforator for providing a long film with perforations and a cutter for cutting the long film into individual filmstrips to be contained in the film cassette driven synchronously with transport of the long film. A magnetic recording head for recording data on a magnetic recording layer of the long film is driven in synchronism with the perforator and the cutter. The long film is transported in a first direction before being cut into the individual filmstrips. In cooperation with the cutting, a trailing end of the individual filmstrip in the first direction is moved in a direction which is reverse to the first direction to secure the trailing end to the spool. A cassette shell consisting of a pair of shell halves is temporarily assembled by mating the shell halves together while containing a spool inside the shell halves, and thereafter opened to an extent that confining elements still confine the position of flanges of the spool. The trailing end of the filmstrip is inserted into the opened cassette shell and secured to the spool.

This transducer exhibits a high degree of thermal stability partly due to the substrate and diaphragm being made of materials having closely matched thermal expansion coefficients. This feature ensures that the tension in the diaphragm stays consistent even with varying temperatures, thereby maintaining a constant transducer sensitivity. In addition, the distance separating the first and second electrodes is minimized so as to create a short thermal expansion path. This short path length minimizing changes in the response of the transducer due to variations in temperature. This transducer can also be batch produced.

The elements may comprise one or a plurality of front electrodes, and one or a plurality of back electrodes, wherein the front electrode(s) is electrically interconnected to the electrically conductive material disposed on the side surface portion. At least one electrically conductive embedded pathway may be provided through the backing material and electrically connected to one or a plurality of the back electrodes. In a mass processing method, a plurality of thickness-mode ultrasound probe transducer assemblies may be produced, wherein a plurality of interconnected transducer subassemblies comprising a mass backing are processed in tandem. The method may provide for the interconnection of at least a first material layer on a front side of a backing material comprising the mass backing, wherein a different portion of the first material layer remains interconnected to each of the plurality of subassemblies after disconnection of the subassemblies. The method may further provide for the connection of additional material layers on the front side of the mass backing prior to disconnection of the subassemblies, thereby yielding further mass processing efficiencies.

Moulding is formed by first making a longitudinally extending cut in the bottom wall of a con-ventional eavestrough in order to separate the eavestrough into two segments. The inner portion of the bottom wall is then attached to the exterior wall of a building beneath its eaves or elsewhere such that the back wall of the eavestrough projects outwardly. The front wall of the eavestrough is then hung from the projecting back wall so that it extends downwardly and inwardly toward the exterior wall of the building. The eavestrough is cut by means of a machine having a guide plate and a pair of cutting wheels. The guide plate has an opening of a shape similar to that of the cross--section of the eavestrough but slightly larger so that as the eavestrough is fed through the opening it is guided by the guide plate. The cutting wheels are positioned such that after the eavestrough exits from the opening, its bottom wall passes between the wheels where it is cut.

Composite preform and method of manufacturing fiber reinforced composite

A preform for a composite article is manufactured by depositing reinforcing fibre (204) in a portion of the grooves (203) formed in sheets of foil (202) of the matrix material. Material (206, 208) compatible with the foil is disposed near the unfilled grooves and the foils are then stacked. When the preform is consolidated by pressure and temperature to form the composite, the compatible material fills the grooves which do not contain fibre, ensuring uniform debulking and avoiding lateral migration of the fibres or the formation of voids. The reinforcement may thus be distributed unevenly across the volume of the composite while identical groove patterns are used in all the foils. Non-reinforced areas may be readily machined. The compatible material may be a powder, wire or a sheet layed across the top of the unfilled grooves (203).

The guide plate has an opening of a shape similar to that of the cross-section of the eavestrough but slightly larger so that as the eavestrough is fed through the opening, it is guided by the guide plate. The cutting wheels are positioned such that after the eavestrough exits from the opening, its bottom wall passes between the wheels where it is cut.
