The invention concerns a spring barrel module having two chambers. A spring is located in the first chamber and a damper in the second chamber. The unidirectional damper is implemented by a clutch means that connects the damper plate to the spring shaft when the tightened spring is released, whereby the rotation of the damper slows down. Correspondingly, the clutch loosens the connection between the damper plate and the spring shaft when the spring is tightened. In low temperatures (e.g. below 0 ~C degrees) the damper fails to dampen the rotation. The unidirectional feature of the damper improves both usability and durability. Breakage of the mechanical components of the spring barrel is prevented by an overload clutch, which means that the spring barrel module will tolerate even relatively rough handling of the equipment.

The invention concerns a spring barrel module having two chambers. A spring is located in the first chamber and a damper in the second chamber. The unidirectional damper is implemented by a clutch means that connects the damper plate to the spring shaft when the tightened spring is released, whereby the rotation of the damper slows down. Correspondingly, the clutch loosens the connection between the damper plate and the spring shaft when the spring is tightened. In low temperatures (e.g. below 0 {C degrees) the damper fails to dampen the rotation. The unidirectional feature of the damper improves both usability and durability. Breakage of the mechanical components of the spring barrel is prevented by an overload clutch, which means that the spring barrel module will tolerate even relatively rough handling of the equipment.

The axle 5 drives the generator 11 via a gear train 6 which greatly increases the speed of rotation of the generator 11. Each coil 1 is formed from two strips of metal fastened together, the outer strip of metal 2, eg bronze or copper, having a higher contraction and expansion rate compared to that of the inner strip of metal 3, eg iron or steel. Reflective surfaces 13 may be placed below and behind the bi-metallic spring coils in order to concentrate the sun's energy upon them.

The present invention utilizes operation of a valve actuator to generate electrical power. A portion of the mechanical energy generated by operation of a valve actuator is converted to electrical energy. The mechanical energy may be converted to electrical energy at the same time as the valve actuator is operating or the mechanical energy may be stored for later conversion. A valve actuator may be operated manually, electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically. Generated electrical energy may also be stored. 1. A power source for a valve actuator , the power source comprising:a power generation means; andan input means adapted to transfer mechanical energy from a drive train of the valve actuator to the power generation means.2. The power source of claim 1 , further comprising:an engagement means adapted to operatively couple the input means to the power generation means; anda control means adapted to control when the engagement means operatively couples the input means to the power generation means.3. Yarn energy harvesters containing conducing nanomaterials (such as carbon nanotube (CNT) yarn harvesters) that electrochemically convert tensile or torsional mechanical energy into electrical energy. Stretched coiled yarns can generate 250 W/kg of peak electrical power when cycled up to 24 Hz, and can generate up to 41.2 J/kg of electrical energy per mechanical cycle. Unlike for other harvesters, torsional rotation produces both tensile and torsional energy harvesting and no bias voltage is required, even when electrochemically operating in salt water. Since homochiral and heterochiral coiled harvester yarns provide oppositely directed potential changes when stretched, both contribute to output power in a dual-electrode yarn. These energy harvesters were used in the ocean to harvest wave energy, combined with thermally-driven artificial muscles to convert temperature fluctuations to electrical energy, sewn into textiles for use as self-powered respiration sensors, and used to power a light emitting diode and to charge a storage capacitor. 1. An Energy storage apparatus using spring torsion for converting the power generated by an energy generating apparatus to the energy stored in the form of spring energy comprises a torsion-converting gear connected to the energy resource and converting the energy to torsion for output. The output side of the torsion-converting gear is connected to a torsion limiter for blocking over-torsion to the following structures and preventing damages. The output side of the torsion limiter is connected to a one-way input bearing for transmitting the torsion unidirectionally to the following structures and preventing the outputted torsion from transmitting backwards to damage the structures aforementioned. The output side of the one-way input bearing is connected to an energy storage set formed with at least two coaxially connecting swivel discs. A torsional spring is wound between the two adjacent swivel discs and the end of the torsional spring is bended in opposite to the winding direction, so that the torsional spring could be bended and wound twice to increase the rotary torsion when the disc rotates. The output side disc of the energy storage set is connected to an accelerating gear for outputting the energy after the rotary torsion is accelerated. The energy storage set (14) could be in serial or parallel configuration so the efficiency of the storage and usage of the energy is improved.

Described is a spring mechanism. The spring mechanism includes a leaf spring housing with leaf springs radially disposed within the leaf spring housing. The leaf springs being flexible between a rest state and tension state. A winding mechanism is engaged with the leaf springs for causing the leaf springs to flex from the rest state to the tension state. The winding mechanism includes a pushing pin wheel with a plurality of pushing pins protruding therefrom that rest against the leaf springs. The pushing pin wheel is rotatable such that rotation of the pushing pin wheel causes the leaf springs to flex from the rest state to a tension state. Release of the tension (i.e., when the leaf springs return to the rest state from the tension state) causes rotation of the leaf spring housing, which causes rotation of a corresponding release gear set and output drive.
