High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) revealed that the 1-D nanostructures are from 10-20 nm in diameter, on the order of 1-2 μm in length, and have the orthorhombic M o O 3 structure. The structure, crystallinity, and sensoric character of these electrostatically processed nanowires are discussed. It has been demonstrated that the non-woven-network of M o O 3 nanowires exhibits higher sensitivity and an n-type response to NH 3 as compared to the response of a sol-gel based sensor.

In some embodiments, salt is added prior to centrifugation. In other embodiments, the centrifugation is performed at a temperature below room temperature. Fractions separate as colored bands in the column. The diameter of the separated SWNTs decreases with increasing density along the gradient of the column. The colored bands can be withdrawn separately from the column.

The novel composite may be obtained by the steps (i) mixing a first mixture of at least one Ag-salt with a second mixture of at least one Zn-salt thereby forming a third mixture of Ag- and Zn-salts, (ii) adding the third mixture to a mixture of a carbonate source, (iii) co-precipitating of the Ag- and Zn-carbonates formed in step (ii), (iv) washing of the Ag- and Zn-carbonates and (v) thermal decompositing of the Ag- and Zn-carbonates. The novel composites are useful to impart antimicrobial properties to surfaces, articles or bulk compositions, especially to membrane systems for gas- or water separation.

Provided is a method for preparing barium titanate, which comprises: dissolving BaCl 2 .2H 2 O into TiCl 4 solution to prepare Ba—Ti mixed solution with a Ba/Ti mol ratio of 1:1; adding ammonia and ammonium bicarbonate into deionized water to prepare synthetic agent with a NH 4 OH/NH 4 HCO 3 mol ratio of 5:1; adding Ba—Ti mixed solution and synthesis agent into a reactor for synthesis to obtain a slurry; pressure filtering, thermal washing and then pressure filtering, to obtain a filter cake; calcining the filter cake for 1 hour at 590-610° C., followed by further calcining for 2 hours at 700-950° C.; crushing the obtained solid produced by a crusher, and thereby obtaining barium titanate. The obtained barium titanate is spherical, and has a narrower particle size distribution. The method reduces costs.
