The invention further relates to a laminate panel manufactured by the method described above. In addition, the invention relates to a connecting system for coupling adjacent panels. The connecting system employs a track locking strip in securely coupling the panels in accordance with the present invention.

The tape has one side attached to one side of the slit with the other portion of the tape being positioned for closing the slit by engaging the opposite side of the slit. A pressure sensitive adhesive is provided on the tape and a release liner protects the adhesive on the other portion of the tape.

The tape (40) is applied immediately after the article is extruded and while the article is still subject to shrinkage, which is common with extruded foamed products. The tape is prestressed and is of a material to alleviate the problems associated with shrinkage. This method is particularly appropriate for applying a closing tape to an extruded polyethylene pipe insulation (2) product which has been longitudinally slit to allow the pipe to be located interior to the insulation. The tape has one side attached to one side of the slit (9) with the other portion of the tape being positioned for closing the slit by engaging the opposite side of the slit. A pressure sensitive adhesive is provied on the tape and a release liner protects the adhesive on the other portion of the tape.

If desired a second set of pressure rolls may be disposed downstream from the first pair of pressure rolls and may be utilized to apply a decorative film to another surface of the elongated element which is angularly related with the first surface, the elongated element being twisted so as to accommodate this operation with the second set of pressure rolls which are oriented similarly to the first pair of pressure rolls.

An automatic machine which utilizes sealing tape to seal the edges of a folded article passing therethrough. The machine is so designed that articles which do not require sealing pass through unimpeded. Other articles are sealed by one or more cylindrically-shaped tape applying heads, to each of which there is fed a supply of sealing tape, in combination with folded apparatus. At the appropriate time each of the taping heads is caused to advance against the article to be sealed, causing a portion of the tape to stick to the article. The taping head revolves slightly under the influence of the moving article and then comes to an abrupt halt, breaking the tape. The folding apparatus holds the non-adhered portion of the detached tape around the edge to be sealed and into engagement with the opposite side of the article.

A bending mechanism forms this strip into an open top, U-shaped channel. In a process to apply a wood veneer facing material to a wood-based substrate, one bears an adhesive. The veneer is presented to the substrate at an acute angle alpha. A laser beam is directed through the gap between veneer and substrate at the nip gap, activating the adhesive. The veneer (3) and substrate (1) advance together under a rolling press wheel (4). A sensor determines how much energy is taken up by the adhesive and the information is registered by a feedback control system to modify process parameters as necessary e.g. feed rate, laser power, laser beam geometry, press force. The acute angle is less than 20. The laser beam is directed via a lens system or a beam oscillator. The laser beam wavelength is between 800 and 2500 nm or 9 m and 11 m. The laser is a diode laser, a solid body laser, fiber laser or CO(2 laser. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly.

An apparatus for adhering ribbons to a cartridge shell plate comprises a conveyor for continuously conveying thin sheets disposed side by side, a pressure adherence unit for pushing two ribbon webs coated with an adhesive against edge portions of the thin sheets which are being conveyed, and a ribbon cutting mechanism for circulating cutter units beside the thin sheets in the direction of conveyance of the thin sheets in synchonization therewith, and swinging cutters of the cutter units to cut the ribbon webs between adjacent thin sheets. The cartridge shell plate is made by intermittently conveying thin sheets, which have been cut in a size equal to the developed length and width dimenions of the cartridge shell plate, by a conveyor, and cutting four corner portions of the thin sheet and then bending the thin sheet into a ship-like cross-sectional shape at a cutting process station and a bending process station disposed along the conveyor.

A method and apparatus is described for applying unvulcanized gumstrips in precise overlapping relation on the marginal edges of an unvulcanized tire reinforcement belt or breaker to enhance the adhesion between the reinforcement belt or breaker and surrounding components of a finished, vulcanized tire. The method and apparatus comprise a number of important features; namely, tensioning the gumstrips as they pay out from a letoff device, reeving the gumstrips, in tension, at least partially around a pair of barrel-shaped rollers which precisely locate the gumstrips for subsequent contact with a belt as it moves in a horizontal pathway, providing a specially contoured roller for applying the gumstrips to the moving belt, removing a protective cover sheet from each gumstrip at a unique angle where the resistance to separating the two components is minimized, and folding any portions of the gumstrips overhanging the marginal edges of the belt, at a plurality of stations which employ at least two sets of rollers which are resiliently and horizontally preloaded to accommodate variations in the width of the belts being processed.
