More specifically, the present invention discloses a golf club head having a striking face portion with a back surface provided with multiple constant thickness zones and multiple transition zones on a back surface of the striking face portion. Preferably, at least three constant thickness zones are provided in the thickened central region of the striking face portion encompassed by an intermediate transition zone and an outer perimeter region encompassing the intermediate transition zone comprising at least four outer perimeter constant thickness zones. Preferably, the thickened central region and the intermediate transition region mimic the shape of the face perimeter of the striking face portion of the golf club head.

Embodiments of golf club heads comprising a face with a variable thickness to improve the durability in the club head, increase ball speed, and increase characteristic time (CT) are described herein. The face comprises thickened and thinned regions. The face includes a perimeter thickened region positioned near a perimeter of the face, a thinned region positioned inward of the perimeter thickened region toward a center of the face, and a central thickened region positioned over the center of the face. The combination of the thickened and thinned regions of the face increase ball speed and further increase or maximize CT without sacrificing durability.

Metal wood club

A golf club head is provided a weight system to adjust the center of gravity. In one embodiment, the weight system is a tube having a weight at one end that may be inserted into the golf club head to move the center of gravity at least forward and backward within 6 mm and up and down within 6 mm. Preferably, the tube is angled downward toward the face by at least 3 degrees. In another embodiment, the weight system may adjust the center of gravity of the golf club head along the x and z axis simultaneously using a weighted insert.

A cast cup can include a forward portion of a golf club head, including a hosel, a face portion, and forward portions of a crown, sole, heel and toe. A rear ring can be formed separately from the cast cup and coupled to heel and toe portions of the cast cup to form a metallic club head body, such that the club head body defines a hollow interior region, a crown opening, and a sole opening. The cast cup and rear ring can be cast of titanium alloys. Composite crown and sole inserts can then be coupled to the crown opening and sole opening. The face portion of the cast cup can have a desirably complex geometry. The rear surface of the face portion of the cast cup can be modified before the rear ring is attached.

More specifically, the golf club head in accordance with the present invention has a striking face that forms a pocket, wherein the pocket is filled with a secondary material having a lower density to improve the performance of the golf club head. A ball striking device, such as a golf club head, includes a face having a ball striking surface, an inner surface opposite the ball striking surface, and a body connected to the face and extending rearward from the face. The head has a deformation limiting member located behind the face and having an end spaced a distance from the inner surface of the face. The face and the deformation limiting member are adapted such that an impact of the ball on the ball striking surface causes deformation of the face toward the deformation limiting member. When the deformation of the face is sufficient to cause the inner surface of the face to engage the deformation limiting member, the deformation limiting member exerts a force on the face to resist further deformation of the face.

The present disclosure relates to methods for forming a golf club head assembly comprising a golf club head body and a high strength faceplate. The high strength faceplate can be heat treated. After welding the faceplate to the club head body, vibrational waves can be used to relive stress in the weld heat affected zones of the golf club body and faceplate. 1. A method of forming a golf club head assembly , the method comprising:(a) providing a faceplate formed from a first material,(b) providing a golf club head body formed from a second material, wherein the first material is different than the second material,(c) heating the club head body under a heat treatment, wherein the club head body is heated to a temperature that is greater than a solvus temperature of the club head body for a predetermined amount of time;(d) after heating the club head body from step (c), allowing the club head body to cool in an inert gas environment;(e) aligning the faceplate of step (a) with the club head body of step (b) after heating step (c) and cooling step (d);(f) welding the faceplate to the club head body to form a heat affected zone (HAZ) between the faceplate and the club head body to form a golf club head assembly; and(g) relieving stress of the HAZ of the golf club head assembly by vibrational waves.2. The aft-body ( 61 ), which may be composed of a non-metal material such as composite or thermoplastic material, is composed of a crown portion ( 62 ) and a sole portion ( 64 ). The sound modifying design, which may include deep pockets or pillars extending from the sole portion ( 64 ) to the crown portion ( 62 ), alters the sound of the golf club head ( 42 ) when it impacts a golf ball.

A method of manufacturing a golf club head comprising a plurality of stiffening members proximate the face, and particularly solid rods or a plate with one or more cutouts, is disclosed herein. The method comprises the steps of preparing a wax of a golf club head body, the body comprising at least one through-holes, a hollow interior, and at least one receiving pocket, preparing waxes of one or more stiffening members, inserting the wax of the stiffening members into the through-hole and seating its opposite end in the receiving pocket, bonding each of the stiffening members to the body with an adhesive material to form a combined wax mold, and casting a golf club head from the combined wax mold.
