The strips may be screwed to the floor and riveted together at the corners of the frame. Alternatively, metal or synthetic plastic angle pieces may be used at the corners. The members 19 may be round rods accommodated in round passages 17. The inner, upper, edge 15 may be extended to overlap the mat or carpet. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7, the inside surface of two opposite members 10 of the frame have projections which lie between the end links of a mat and a wire 28 passes through the projections and the end links to secure the mat to the frame.

An interlocking modular mat having four sides has female connectors on two sides and male connectors on the other two sides so that the modular mat can interlock with an adjacent mat and its connectors. The modular mat is configured with a plurality of structures surrounding a periphery of a top portion of the mat. The plurality of structures in combination with an underside of the top portion of the mat form a cavity. A sponge insert is configured to fit in the cavity and have a height such that a portion of the sponge insert extends from a bottom side the mat body. With the sponge insert extending beyond the bottom side of the mat body, the sponge insert bottom face generally become the supporting bottom of the modular mat to provide a more cushioned feel for a mat user.

Adjacent parts are so arranged as to communicate with each other by means of a flexible connection, typically in the form of a thread or wire passing through holes in the ends. Instead of arranging the blocks a in straight rows, they may be staggered, as shown in Fig. 7. The blocks a may have monograms or pieces of lead &c. let into them. The rods d may be made in sections joined together by links.

INTERLOCKING MODULAR MAT WITH SPONGE INSERT

An interlocking modular mat having four sides has female connectors on two sides and male connectors on the other two sides so that the modular mat can interlock with an adjacent mat and its connectors. The modular mat is configured with a plurality of structures surrounding a periphery of a top portion of the mat. The plurality of structures in combination with an underside of the top portion of the mat form a cavity. A sponge insert is configured to fit in the cavity and have a height such that a portion of the sponge insert extends from a bottom side the mat body. With the sponge insert extending beyond the bottom side of the mat body, the sponge insert bottom face generally become the supporting bottom of the modular mat to provide a more cushioned feel for a mat user.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A FOAM MAT

A method of manufacturing a substantially flat foam floor mat is described. The raw materials for each color layer are separately mixed and heated below their foaming temperature in different batches, and separately pressed through heated rollers to form a plurality of unfoamed sheets. The temperature of the rollers are maintained within a range of 5° C. or less. Two or more unfoamed sheets from each batch are stacked together in a press and heated above their foaming temperature to permit the stacked sheets to foam, expand, and heat-weld together. The press restricts the sheets from vertical expansion while allowing horizontal expansion. Once the sheets are foamed, a series of alternating teeth and receiving slots are cut around the boundary of the mat to form an interlocking peripheral wall. 1. A method of forming a substantially flat foam floor mat , comprising:forming a stack of (i) at least first and second sheets of a first color, and (ii) at least third and fourth sheets of a second color;heating and pressing the stack such that the first sheet foams and heat welds to the second sheet, the second sheet foams and heat welds to the third sheet, and the third sheet foams and heat welds to the fourth sheet; andtrimming the heated and pressed stack to form a boundary of interlocking teeth.2. The present disclosure relates to a modular mat system. More particularly, the disclosure is directed to a modular mat system with that may be built out using common pieces of mats. Specifically, a modular mat system with a mat piece with a top plate with inserts, a bottom plate with a plurality of tabs and recesses operative to engage with further mat pieces to build a mat system is discussed. The modular mat system is operative to remove water and other detritus from shoes of a user or other such platform moving across the mat system and feed it to a perimeter drain below the system.

Portable foldable surface

A foldable surface for supporting a user relative to a support surface during an activity includes at least three surface panels that are movably coupled to one another with one or more panel connectors. Each of the surface panels includes (i) a rigid base layer having a base layer first surface that faces in a first direction, and (ii) a resilient layer that is adjacent to the base layer, the resilient layer having a resilient layer second surface that faces in a second direction that is substantially opposite the first direction.
