Self-propelled power unit with removable attachment assembly

The invention relates to a self-propelled outdoor power equipment unit, an attachment for use with such a unit and associated methods. The unit may be in the form of a mower having a mower deck. The attachment includes a hopper and conveyor assembly for discharging particulate material from the hopper. The conveyor assembly has operational and stored positions, the latter of which provides a narrower profile of the attachment and unit. The attachment and mower deck may be mounted on the frame of the unit together or separately. The attachment is configured for rapid mounting and dismounting on the frame of the unit, and provides additional functionality to a mower or other unit on which the attachment is mounted.

The apparatus ( 10 ) includes a hopper ( 11 ) having a discharge aperture ( 12 ), a vibration unit ( 17 ) arranged for agitating material within the hopper ( 11 ), circuitry ( 22 ) arranged for supplying power from a power source to one or more material handling components of the spreading apparatus ( 11 ), monitoring the power drawn by the one or more material handling components and controlling operation of the vibration unit ( 17 ) in dependence upon said power. In various embodiments, the material handling components may include one or more of: a spreading disk ( 15 ) arranged for distributing material received from the discharge aperture ( 12 ); an auger ( 18 ) extending through the discharge aperture ( 12 ); and/or a conveyer belt arranged for conveying material from the discharge aperture to the spreading disk ( 15 ). The invention provides an unloading system which can be arranged to move a bin or box a distance away from metering equipment of an agricultural machine, such as a dry pneumatic applicator, to allow access to bottom oriented-gates of the bin and retractable chutes for directing particulate material out of the bin and away from the machine. In one aspect, the bin can be lifted or vertically raised by one or more cylinders to allow access to the bottom gates and allow gravity to empty the material from the box, through the bottom gates, down one or more chutes directed to a particular area. One or more hoppers of the bin, typically 1 to 4, can each have a bottom positioned slide gate or door that can be operated to expose a chute for emptying the material out of the box.

The apparatus includes a plurality of drop members supported by and spaced laterally along a boom structure such that each drop member is positioned between two adjacently spaced crop rows. The drop member extends downwardly from the boom structure toward the soil surface. The drop member supports a hopper which receives a quantity of particulate product. Diverging particulate product passageways supported from a lower portion of the drop member deliver the particulate product from the hoppers onto the soil surface adjacent the two adjacently spaced crop rows. In alternative embodiments, the drop members may also support liquid passageways for delivering liquid product to the soil surface with the particulate product and the drop members may support spray assemblies for spraying plants in the adjacent crop rows.

A plant irrigation dispenser and method controllably dispenses nutritional compositions to a plant. The dispenser comprises a housing defined by a first end and a second end that forms a channel. Impaling members form at the second end of the housing. The housing encloses multiple chambers that contain the nutritional composition. The chambers have a filling end and a dispensing end that forms an opening. A membrane seals the opening. Rotatably manipulating and axially displacing the chambers in relation to the housing allows the impaling members to tear the membrane, so that the nutritional compositions flows through the openings, and onto the plant. A press is in communication with the chamber cavities, so that axially displacing the press in a downward direction forces the nutritional compositions through the openings. A valve assembly retains and manipulates plugs in alignment with the openings to selectively couple and decouple the respective openings.

The fertilizer dispenser apparatus has contoured wheels and tines extending radially therefrom, enabling preparation of the surface area to be treated. The tines enable the targeted site to be exposed prior to fertilization. Then, a trigger mechanism is engaged and a metering auger dispenses a controlled amount of fertilizer. The surface treatment enables the fertilizer to be inserted into the soil onto the root system of the plant targeted for growth. After fertilization, the apparatus in maneuvered to cover the newly applied fertilizer with available soil. A manually operated version is powered by the motion of the wheels, whereby the user engages the trigger mechanism and using the forward and rearward motion of the apparatus, dispenses a metered amount of fertilizing agent to a specific area.
